If you are fitting inside the recess, you will need to take the following measurements, using only a steel tape measure:
- Take wall to wall measurements in 3 places for both the width and drop
- For the width, take your measurements at the top, middle and bottom of the opening, and note down the smallest size
- For the drop, take your measurements at the left, middle and right of the opening, again noting down the smallest size
By working with the smallest measurements, this ensures that the blind will fit within the reveal. It is important to note down your sizes with no reductions, as we will make a small reduction to ensure the blind fits into the space for you.
The amount of the reduction we make to the width, does depend on the type of the blind. Please see below for what reductions we will make:
Roller Blinds |
5mm |
Wood Venetian Blinds |
10mm |
Vertical Blinds |
5mm |
Aluminium Venetian Blinds |
10mm |
Roman Blinds |
10mm |
Day & Night Blinds |
5mm |
Bottom Up Blinds |
5mm |
With chain-operated roller blinds, the fabric width is approximately 3.5cm narrower than the total blind size (outer bracket to outer bracket). For a spring-loaded roller blind, the fabric width is approximately 2.8cm narrower than the overall blind size. This is due to the size of the control mechanism, the brackets, and the fact that the fabric cannot run fully to the ends of the tube, as it would get caught & frayed during operation.
Please see an example below:
A chain operated roller blind with a recess of 100cm: we will make a 5mm reduction on the width for this. This will make the overall blind size (bracket to bracket) 99.5cm, and the fabric width will be 3.5cm narrower, measuring 96cm.
For a roller blind, we add on 40cm of fabric onto the drop, to ensure the roller tube isn’t exposed when the blind is at its fullest drop.
