If you are fitting outside of a recess, you will need to take the following measurements, using only a steel tape measure:
- Work out the entire space that you would like to cover. Ensure that you leave adequate space above the recess for fitting the brackets & the tube. Another factor to consider with roller blinds is that the fabric width is approximately 3.5cm narrower than the total blind size (outer bracket to outer bracket). Neglecting this consideration could result in the fabric being narrower than your opening & therefore not covering the reveal.
- Take measurements in 3 places for both the width & drop.
- For the width, take your measurements at the top, middle & bottom of the opening & note down the smallest.
- For the drop, measure on the left, middle & right again, noting down the smallest size.
When fitting outside the recess we again, work with the smallest measurements to ensure that the blind will fit within the available area.
Ensure you have correctly selected from the drop down “How Measured”. When a blind is being fitted outside of a recess, or if this isn’t any recess, you can order the blind in two different ways (this is only applicable for roller blinds):
- Fabric Size – This is the width of the fabric itself. The drop will be as you have entered it, including the roller tube & brackets). This will mean the Blind Size (bracket to bracket width) will be wider. (3.5cm wider for a chain-operated roller blind, and 2.8cm wider for a spring-loaded roller blind)
- Blind Size – this is the bracket to bracket width. The fabric will be narrower than this (as above).
For a roller blind, we add on 40cm of fabric onto the drop, to ensure the roller tube isn’t exposed when the blind is at its fullest drop.
