To check if your window is suitable for a skylight blind, the window does require a frame around the window, with a minimum frame depth of 5cm.
If this is not the case, your window may be suitable for a Total Blackout Blind. These are quite similar to a skylight blind, however, these are designed to fit on to the very edge of a window recess & overlap slightly all of the way around.
How To Identify Your Skylight Window
If you have a branded skylight window and are unsure about what blind would be suitable, you can check for the code in several places on the window:
- Open the window and locate your data plate on the inside edge. It will look like one of the plates shown above.
- There will normally be a prefix such as GGL followed by a size code such as M04. Note down just the size code which you can select from the drop down box at the top of the page.
What To Check For If You Can’t Find A Matching Code
If you are unable to locate a code or data plate, or if you are unsure of the type of window that you have, if you measure your glass width & drop, you can try and locate the code by searching for your sizes on our 'Identify My Skylight Window' page:

To identify whether your Skylight window is made by Velux, Fakro, Rooflite, Dakstra or Roto and find your window code:
- Open the window and locate your data plate on the inside edge. It will look like one of the plates shown on the right (Image 1 for Velux, Fakro, Rooflite & Dakstra or Image 2 for Roto)
- Note down the size code as indicated on the image.

If you have been able to match up to a skylight blind on this page that isn't offered on the website, and once you have chosen your favourite fabric from one of our ranges and taken all of your measurements, you can either give us a call on 0800 1488229 or email us for a quote at info@orderblinds.co.uk.
What To Check For If There Is No Code
If there isn't a code on the window and you can't match the glass sizes up to a code on our 'Identify My Skylight Window' page, don’t worry! We can still make a custom sized skylight blind for your window.
In order to check that your blind can be made we need to know which fabric you would like us to use from any of our skylight blind ranges along with the following measurements as illustrated in the diagram:
- The width and drop of the front edge of the frame - A & B (this is so that if your window tapers out we can ensure that we use the correct profile to take this into account)
- The width and drop of the glass - C & D
- The depth of the frame on both the side and bottom of the window - E & F

You can choose any fabrics from the Velux blind range: https://www.orderblinds.co.uk/dept/velux-blinds_d01301.htm
