About the blinds...
If you have fallen in love with a specific fabric, we can transform this into a bespoke made to measure roller blind!
Turning your fabric into a roller blind is done simply by heat bonding a 100% cotton backing to the fabric. We have multiple backing options to choose from, including both daylight and blackout finishes.
To ensure if your fabric is suitable for the bonding process, you can send a small piece of your chosen material to us to test bond, before investing in the full amount of fabric for your blind.
How The Process Works
- To start the process, you can send a sample of fabric to us; we would recommend a sample measuring around 15 x 15cm, as the bigger the sample, the better idea you will get for how the blind will look. Please include your name, email address, delivery address, and which backing you would like on the sample, so we can keep you updated & post the sample out to you as soon as it's ready!
- Once we've received the sample, it will be tested & sent out again within 3 working days.
- Once you have received the sample and are happy to proceed with your chosen fabric, you can place the order here.
- Finally, you can send the fabric to us to be made into a roller blind! When this is sent to us, please ensure your order number and/or postcode is included so we can match this up when the fabric arrives with us.
Sending us the fabric
Once you have placed your order you will need to send the fabric to us. We strongly recommend inspecting the fabric for flaws and that any patterns are printed correctly before sending us the fabric as this can affect the overall finish of the blind.
We will always inspect the fabric again for pattern straightness and highlight issues that we spot but we cannot be held responsible if the blind doesn’t look great if this is a result of us being sent faulty fabric.
We also strongly recommend sending us the fabric on a roll, rather than folded. Depending on the fabric, once a material has been folded, the crease lines can remain even after ironing. On a roller blind these will be very pronounced and we cannot be held responsible for these lines if the fabric has been sent to us folded.
What types of fabric can be used?
This process can be done on most fabric types. We highly recommend avoiding checked, striped, tartan, raw silk fabrics, or any materials that have a very open weave. The bonding process when combined with these types of fabric can sometimes warp the design.
Please feel free to send a sample to us if you are still unsure! Please see our address below:

Are there any size restrictions?
The size of the blind that can be made is determined by the width of the fabric you want to use. We currently do not offer to join customer’s own fabric so can make a blind up to 5cm shorter than the width of the fabric you want us to use.
Some fabrics, for example, a plain fabric will be suitable to turn on their side. This will allow you to have a wider blind with a limited drop.
We require 30cm of fabric on the drop to make the blind up and ensure that the top roll is covered when the blind is fully lowered.
Example:
- The fabric is 137cm Wide.
- Turning the fabric on its side to make a blind 240cm wide would have a maximum drop of 107cm.
PLEASE NOTE - These blinds are only suitable for top fixing or face fixing only, they cannot be side fixed.
How much fabric will I need?
Once we know what fabric you want to use and what size blinds you would like us to make we will always confirm how much fabric is required; but as a rule of thumb to get an idea the following guide can be used:
- If the blind is being made from a single width of fabric = The drop of the window + 30cm
- If the blinds are being made from a patterned fabric you would also need to add a pattern repeat of fabric per drop of material for us to pattern match your blinds.
What do you get?
We sell complete blinds only & will send you the full kit. This includes:
- Brackets & bracket covers (suitable for either top or face fixing)
- Chain & chain mechanism
- Roller blind tube
- Bottom weight / exposed aluminium bottom bar, if you choose
- Child safety clip
- Screws
How are they operated?
These blinds are supplied with a sidewinder mechanism for complete control, and a safety clip to attach to your wall or window frame, which then tensions the chain.
The chain can be fitted on either the left or right side of the blind. When you receive the blind & you would then like to change the roller side over, this is possible to do:
Require a longer length chain?
We can provide a longer length chain no problem at all! In order to do so, we need to take an Installation Height from you to comply with child safety legislation.
An installation height is the height from the floor, to the very top of the window where the blind will be fitted. Once we have confirmation on this height, we can then work out the maximum chain length we can send to comply with this legislation, ensuring that the chain will reach 150cm away from the floor.
You can include this measurement in your special instructions at the checkout, alternatively, you can call us or email this information to our customer service team.
What can I customise?
If you are stuck on what to choose from our drop down menus when ordering, you can find additional information by clicking the 'Question Mark' icons next to the drop down menus. These provide photos or any additional information you may need to confirm, before placing the order. You can find them here:
Fabric Lining
You can choose from a couple of different options: Blackout White, Standard White, and Standard Cream. We do not offer a Blackout Cream backing option.
PLEASE NOTE - if you buy the blind with the blackout backing, light will still leak through at the edges of your blackout blind where the fabric doesn't cover the window. If you would prefer a completely light blocked window, take a look at our Total Blackout Blinds selection.
Chain Colour
You can choose from a couple of different options: White plastic, Black plastic, or Nickel.
Bottom Finish
You can choose from a couple of different options: Plain bottom finish (complete with a bottom weight), or an exposed aluminium bottom bar in black, silver or white.
All of our roller blinds are now made with a sewn bottom finish.
Roll Direction
Please see description of each below:
- Standard roll - The fabric will fall off of the back of the tube closest to the window.
- Reverse roll - The fabric will fall off of the front of the tube into the room. This is ideal if you require extra clearance for the fabric, with obstructions such as window or door handles. We use the Reverse Roll method as standard for Own Fabric Roller Blinds.
If you would like the blind with a Reverse Roll, all you need to do is include this in the special instructions at checkout.
Roller System
Standard Roller System
The standard roller system allows the fabric roll, brackets and blind mechanism to be seen. It's the most common system used and the one you've probably seen around the most. The brackets are suitable for both top & face fixing.
Luxury Roller System
If you choose our luxury roller system, we will supply you with a smart 7cm tall aluminium cassette, fitted with an insert of the same fabric used to make your blind. The brackets supplied can either be top or face fixed.
The cassette hides the roll of fabric, the brackets & mechanism, whilst also removing the gap you would usually see between the ceiling & the fabric roll.
Sizing Information
For our plain roller blinds, we add 40cm onto the drop, which ensures that the roller tube isn't exposed when the blind is at its fullest drop. For all printed & patterned blinds, we add 30cm onto the drop.
When fitting your blind outside the window recess, we recommend overlapping the window by at least 10cm on the width & drop. You can then specify whether you want us to use these measurements as the Blind Size or the Fabric Size. Please see our guide on how to measure for this here.
Recess Size
If you want to fit your blind within the window recess, you will need to order the blind as a 'Recess Size'. Please see our guide on how to measure for this here.
Make sure you do not make any reductions from these sizes yourself, because for a recess we will take a 0.5cm reduction from the width you provide, to ensure the blind fits into the space. The fabric width will be approximately 3.5cm shorter than the bracket to bracket width.
Blind Size
If you choose Blind Size, we will use your measurements as the size of the blind including the brackets and mechanism. We will not make any reductions to this. The fabric width will be approximately 3.5cm shorter than the bracket to bracket width.
Fabric Size
If you choose Fabric Size, we will use your measurements as the size of the fabric part of the blind only. This means that the size of the brackets will be 3.5cm wider overall, in addition to the fabric size.
Bracket Sizes
- For blinds up to a 2 metre width and drop, we will make these on a 32mm roller tube.
- For blinds at a larger scale (2 metres +), to ensure the weight of the fabric isn't too much, we make these blinds on a 40mm roller tube.
