About the blinds...
Day and Night Blinds are an innovative & creative solution for achieving privacy whilst also allowing light to enter your room.
Day and Night Blinds work by using a looped piece of fabric so that when you raise or lower the blind, the stripes line up with each other in either sheer strips to allow light in, or opaque strips to give complete privacy as the blind moves up and down.
Please note that this product is not designed as a blackout solution, as the fabric is light-filtering, even when fully closed. When fully down, the blind will finish in the closed position for complete privacy.
What do you get?
We sell complete blinds only & will send you the full kit. This includes:
- 7cm tall White or Anthracite cassette housing the roller blind tube & mechanism. This is completely hidden from view (unless you look directly up from underneath it).
- Top or face fixing brackets
- Chain & chain mechanism
- Child safety clip
- Roller blind tube
- Pear shaped, high gloss finish, coordinating bottom bar (this will match the colour of the cassette you choose, whether white or anthracite)
- Screws
How are they operated?
These blinds are supplied with a sidewinder mechanism for complete control, and a safety clip to attach to your wall or window frame, which then tensions the chain.
The chain can be fitted on either the left or right side of the blind. When you receive the blind & you would then like to change the roller side over, this is possible to do:
Depending on which roll direction the blind has been made for, you will be able to detach the roller tube from the blind brackets from either the back or the front of the cassette. If the blind is standard rolled, the fabric will be attached to the back of the cassette, and if the blind is reverse rolled, the fabric will be attached to the front of the cassette.
Be careful not to detach the actual fabric from the cassette, as the attached fabric aids in the operation of the blind going round in a loop.
Require a longer length chain?
We can provide a longer length chain no problem at all! In order to do so, we need to take an Installation Height from you to comply with child safety legislation.
An installation height is the height from the floor, to the very top of the window where the blind will be fitted. Once we have confirmation on this height, we can then work out the maximum chain length we can send to comply with this legislation, ensuring that the chain will reach 150cm away from the floor.
You can include this measurement in your special instructions at the checkout, alternatively, you can call us or email this information to our customer service team.
What can I customise?
If you are stuck on what to choose from our drop down menus when ordering, you can find additional information by clicking the 'Question Mark' icons next to the drop down menus. These provide photos or any additional information you may need to confirm, before placing the order. You can find them here:
Chain Colour
You can choose from a couple of different options: White plastic, Black plastic, or Nickel.
Cassette Options
Fitting Position
- Top Fixing - The blind will fit within the window recess. The fittings will be screwed upwards into the top of the recess
- Face Fixing - The blind will be fit either within the window recess or into the wall above it. The fittings will be screwed horizontally either into the window frame or wall above the recess.
Please Note: Screwing into your UPVC window frame can void your supplier warranty, so we recommend the top fixing method if you wish to install your blind within the window recess.
Roll Direction
Please see description of each below:
Reverse Roll |
Standard Roll |
- Standard roll - The fabric will fall off of the back of the tube closest to the window. The back of the looped fabric is attached to the back of the cassette. We make all our roller blinds this way as standard, unless instructed otherwise.
- Reverse roll - The fabric will fall off of the front of the tube into the room. This is ideal if you require extra clearance for the fabric, with obstructions such as window or door handles. The front of the looped fabric is attached to the front of the cassette.
If you would like the blind with a Reverse Roll, all you need to do is include this in the special instructions at checkout.
Sizing Information
When fitting your blind outside the window recess, we recommend overlapping the window by at least 10cm on the width & drop. You can then specify whether you want us to use these measurements as the Blind Size or the Fabric Size. Please see our article here for help with measuring.
If you order multiple blinds to be fitted next to each other (e.g. bifold doors), and if the drop measurements are all equal, then the panels will all be aligned. If you require a different drop for each blind, we can't unfortunately guarantee that all the panels will be aligned.
Recess Size
If you want to fit your blind within the window recess, you will need to order the blind as a 'Recess Size'. Please see our article here for help with measuring.
In a recess we will set the blind to finish between 0.5-1cm from the window sill.
Make sure you do not make any reductions from these sizes yourself, because for a recess we will take a 0.5cm reduction from the width you provide, to ensure the blind fits into the space. The fabric width will be approximately 3.5cm shorter than the bracket to bracket width.
Blind Size
If you choose Blind Size, we will use your measurements as the size of the blind including the brackets and mechanism. We will not make any reductions to this. The fabric width will be approximately 3.5cm shorter than the bracket to bracket width.
Fabric Size
If you choose Fabric Size, we will use your measurements as the size of the fabric part of the blind only. This means that the size of the brackets will be 3.5cm wider overall, in addition to the fabric size.
Bracket Sizes
- For blinds up to a 2 metre width and drop, we will make these on a 32mm roller tube.
- For blinds at a larger scale (2 metres +), to ensure the weight of the fabric isn't too much, we make these blinds on a 40mm tube.
